Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing and the Executive Director of Canada Without Poverty will discuss why housing is the issue of the day for cities around the world.
She will provide a snapshot of housing conditions globally and locally, highlighting the tension between the treatment of housing as a commodity or asset and the understanding of housing as home. She will explain the urgent need for a shift in paradigm, and the imperative of human rights based local and national housing strategies to that end.
