New safe housing for women in crisis received an $8.6 million capital infusion from the province earlier this week.

The facility will feature 100 single suites that will support hundreds of women and children each year.

The YWCA in Calgary is continually working to help women when and where they need it most, said board chair Rebecca Morley.

Many of the women who will be staying in the transitional housing have experienced homelessness or poverty, while others are fleeing violence and abuse.
